The USB260-M3/5BT from Vishay General Semiconductor is a 600 V, 2 A fast recovery rectifier diode in an SMB (DO-214AA) surface-mount package. The 30 ns reverse recovery time makes it suitable for high-frequency switch-mode power supply rectification, freewheeling, and snubber applications. The 600 V rating provides adequate voltage margin for offline SMPS designs with PFC stages. The low forward voltage of 1.6 V at 2 A reduces conduction losses, while the low reverse leakage of 5 uA ensures minimal standby power consumption. MSL 1 rating provides unlimited floor life for assembly flexibility.

The USB260-M3/5BT uses a PN junction diode structure optimized for fast reverse recovery. During forward conduction, minority carriers are injected into the drift region. When the bias reverses, these stored charges must be swept out before the diode blocks current. The 30 ns reverse recovery time indicates the time required for this process, enabling operation at switching frequencies up to several hundred kHz. The fast recovery is achieved through recombination centers introduced by gold doping or similar techniques that accelerate minority carrier recombination. The 600 V blocking capability is provided by a thick, lightly-doped N-type drift region.
