Product Overview
The TCA9517DGKR from TI is an I2C/SMBus voltage-level translator with hot-swap capability, supporting 1.65V-5.5V on side A and 2.3V-5.5V on side B. The hot-swap feature allows live insertion of I2C cards without bus corruption.

Working Principle
Two I2C bus segments (A and B) are connected through MOSFET pass gates. When one side is driven LOW, the other side follows after a propagation delay. Hot-swap circuitry on the SDA/SCL pins suppresses spurious START/STOP conditions during card insertion. EN pin enables/disables translation for isolation.
