The TDA4718A uses a voltage-mode control architecture where the output voltage is compared to a reference by the error amplifier, and the resulting error signal is compared with a ramp signal to determine the PWM duty cycle. The feed-forward control feature allows the ramp generator amplitude to track the input line voltage, providing immediate line regulation without waiting for the feedback loop to respond — this is effective for suppressing line hum and fast line transients. The voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) generates the switching frequency determined by external RT and CT components. Two push-pull outputs (Q1 and Q2) provide complementary drive signals with dead time for driving external power switches in push-pull or bridge configurations. A soft-start capacitor slowly charges to bring the outputs up gradually, preventing inrush current. The error flip-flop monitors multiple fault conditions including overvoltage, undervoltage, and dynamic overcurrent, and disables the outputs upon detection, re-enabling them after the fault clears via soft-start. The double pulse suppression prevents consecutive pulses from exceeding the maximum duty cycle limit.
