The MT5016A is a three-phase full-wave bridge rectifier module from MCC (Micro Commercial Components), designed for high-power industrial rectification applications. The MT5016A operates as a three-phase full-wave rectifier bridge using six silicon diodes arranged in a bridge configuration. Each phase leg of the three-phase AC input is connected between two diodes – one diode for the positive half-cycle and one for the negative half-cycle. Operation principle: 1) At any instant in a three-phase AC system, one phase has the highest positive voltage and another has the most negative voltage. 2) The diode connected to the most positive phase conducts, allowing current to flow to the positive DC output terminal. 3) The diode connected to the most negative phase also conducts, allowing current to return from the negative DC output terminal. 4) As the AC phases rotate, different diode pairs conduct in sequence, maintaining a relatively smooth DC output voltage with six pulses per AC cycle. 5) The output DC voltage for a three-phase full-wave rectifier is approximately 1.35 × V_L-L (line-to-line RMS voltage). For example, with 208VAC three-phase input, the average DC output is approximately 281V. The diodes are silicon PN junction rectifiers with low forward voltage drop and high reverse breakdown voltage. During the forward conduction state, current flows from anode to cathode with a voltage drop of approximately 1.2V. During the reverse blocking state, the diode withstands the reverse voltage with minimal leakage current. The MT-35A package’s metal base plate serves as a thermal interface, conducting heat from the diode junctions to the external heatsink or chassis. Proper heatsinking is essential to maintain junction temperature within the -40°C to +150°C operating range.
